Where Are Your Kids, Idaho?

BevK January 29th, 2006

This article is about the kids that go missing from the Idaho public school system and can’t be accounted for. One point the writer makes is that because they don’t know who is homeschooling that can’t eliminate those individuals from the list of missing kids. Well and good. I just had to laught at this statement from the article:

Without any sort of communication between home-schoolers and school districts, it’s going to be difficult for Idaho to effectively track and guide education in the state.

It’s one thing for the state to know where kids have gone when they leave the public school system. It’s another to assume that they need to be tracking and guiding all education in the state.

BTW, this was on the News page not the editorial page and yet that statement is an opinion. It’s the kind of opinion that seems like fact to those who have never considererd that education isn’t primarily the province of the state but of parents.
